Did you know October is National Seafood Month in the U.S.? In addition to eating lots of #Ahimi, a sea life-friendly seafood, we are celebrating by highlighting a few of the many incredible organizations working to save the oceans and the sea life that call them home. This week, we're talking about @mission_blue. Led by legendary oceanographer and explorer Dr. Sylvia Earle, Mission Blue works to build support for a worldwide network of marine protected areas (MPAs). Currently, only 2% of the oceans have the strictest level of protection (no human entry). Most scientists agree that number should be closer to 30% in order to sufficiently protect endangered species, maintain biodiversity, secure a sustainable food source for communities that depend on seafood, and help ecosystems resist climate change. By building public support and pressure for the creation of these areas, Mission Blue is working toward a sustainable future for the oceans. ??????????

False labelling of seafood species can trick consumers into purchasing food that conflicts with these values, sometimes at an upcharge (since cheaper species are often labeled as more expensive ones).
